Athletics ACT’s grass track meet Steve Dodt, November 23, 2013December 2, 2023 Athletics ACT (AACT) approached Steve Dodt, President of Ginninderra Little Athletics Centre, to assist in achieving one of the 5 key objectives in the AACT Strategic Plan, which is to increase participation numbers in our sport. The AIS Track would be unavailable for around 6 weeks from mid-November to the end of December 2013. Therefore AACT were looking at a 5-week period in the middle of the summer season to run a series of ‘come-and-try’ style meets. Steve Dodt took the initiative and with the assistance of the Ginninderra Committee and the Club’s volunteers, organised a meet at Charnwood Oval on behalf of Athletics ACT and Veterans ACT. This was indeed the first initiative of its kind in the ACT. The meet targeted new AACT ‘participants’ aged 12 years and over, and current ACTLAA, AACT, ACTVAC members were strongly encouraged to participate. Steve Dodt worked alongside the AACT newly appointed Development/Participation Officer, Alex van der Meer Simo in the planning of the meet. Sprint Coach CommunityInnovationNews
