Steve Dodt joins the World Athletics Coach Developer Network
Earlier this month in Brisbane, Steve Dodt took part in the inaugural World Athletics Coach Developer Course — a globally recognised initiative designed to strengthen the way athletics coaches are trained, supported, and inspired.
Selected as one of just 25 coaches worldwide, Steve joined a passionate group of leaders committed to improving coach education at every level — from grassroots development to international high-performance.
The course, facilitated by World Athletics in partnership with Oceania Athletics Track and Field Coaches Association, focused on how coaches learn best, how mentoring and education can be more inclusive and impactful, and how to build stronger learning environments across the sport. Through workshops, practical sessions, and guided reflections, the emphasis wasn’t just on what coaches know — but how they share, guide, and elevate others.
For Steve, it wasn’t just a chance to deepen his coaching toolkit — it was a commitment to pay it forward.
“This course was never about climbing a ladder,” Steve said. “It was about building one behind you so others can climb too.”
As part of the new global Coach Developer network, Steve will now support the development of coaches not only here in Canberra, but across the wider Oceania region — working with federations, clubs, and education providers to help coaches thrive, so their athletes can too.
This milestone also aligns perfectly with Steve’s ongoing work through FAST Running and his local efforts as a mentor, facilitator, and sprint coach across ACT and Australia. Whether it’s supporting emerging junior coaches or helping seasoned professionals reflect and grow, Steve brings a values-led, athlete-first philosophy that continues to shape coaching culture in powerful ways.
As Canberra’s sprint community grows in both performance and influence, Steve’s work is a reminder that strong coaching doesn’t stop at the track — it’s built in conversations, connections, and a shared belief in getting better, together.
