Top of the World Steve Dodt, November 6, 2016December 1, 2023 Sue Bourke has become FAST Running’s first athlete to compete at a World Championships and only the second to represent Australia since Matt Walters, by competing in her first World Masters Athletics Championships in Perth (WA). Sue set the competition alight with a blistering three medal haul from four events. The World’s number 1 ranked 400m runner (W55) leading into the Championships, was a successful member of Australia’s record breaking 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. The Australian’s collected the Gold in both events, defeating the highly fancied USA and German teams for the minor placings. In the individual 400m final, Sue (W56) improved on her preliminary time by over a second to win the Bronze medal, behind the younger Russian and the American sprinters. The medal capped off a magnificent championships for Sue who has cemented herself in Australian Athletics History.
