Supporting ACT’s Next Generation of Track & Field Talent

Canberra Sprint Coach - Steve Dodt - ACT High Performance Coach

Over the past month, Steve Dodt has successfully completed preparations for both the ACT Under 12 Years Track & Field Team and the ACT 13 Years and Over Australian All Schools Team, ensuring ACT’s best young athletes are primed for national competition.

Across four structured sessions, Steve delivered a blend of technical, tactical, and competition-focused training covering key events such as Relay FinalsCombined Event disciplines (100 m, Long Jump, Shot Put, and 800 m), as well as High JumpLong Jump800 m, and 1500 m preparation. Each session was built around the individual athlete’s needs, with close consideration for their personal coaching relationships and training cycles — ensuring every athlete arrived at Nationals confident, healthy, and competition-ready.

In addition to athlete preparation, Steve also mentored several upcoming ACT coaches, integrating them into the Capital Athletics team environment and providing valuable hands-on experience in performance session delivery. His leadership extended beyond the track, engaging collaboratively with Team ManagersCapital Athletics staff, and their valued sponsors at Canberra Physio Clinic to deliver a cohesive, athlete-centred program.

In total, more than 100 nationally qualified athletes benefited from these sessions — reflecting Steve’s ongoing commitment to the ACT athletics community and his philosophy of combining high-performance coaching with personal development and collaboration.
